Rayshon Cobbs Jr. (b. September 6th, 1994) is a grammy winning, RIAA platinum award-winning producer from Roanoke, Virginia. Ray cites Q-Tip as one of his biggest influences to start production after hearing the drums in Bonita Applebum by A Tribe Called Quest as a child. During his sophomore year at Patrick Henry High School, a friend introduced him to FL Studio and after learning more about it in music class, he would make beats instead of taking notes in the back of classes. After graduating high school, he went back and forth to Philadelphia to learn more about the music industry from a close friend and mentor Range Da Messenger. Ray was scouted and recruited to Cool & Dre’s record label, Epidemic Music, in 2015 after many years of sending beats to their late-night “Beat Talk” live streams (formerly “Beat Talk Tuesday”). This led to multiple placements and Ray getting his foot in the door. He lived in a music studio in Florida for 3 years and made the “713” beat on the roof of the music studio which led to a Grammy award for Best Urban Contemporary Album of 2018. 808-Ray was given “808-Ray Day” in his name by the mayor of Roanoke City in 2021 and dedicated the time to giving back to the city by starting a beat camp and helping the next generation of beatmakers get into the music industry in his hometown
