Enta Da Stage is the debut album by New York hip-hop trio Black Moon, consisting of producer DJ Evil Dee, MC 5FT and lead MC Buckshot Shorty a.k.a. Buckshot. The album was completely produced by Da Beatminerz, the production crew consisting of DJ Evil Dee and his brother Mr. Walt.
Released on October 19, 1993 through independent label Nervous Records, Enta Da Stage — along with Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) album released one month later — was seen as a catalyst for the re-emergence of hardcore hip-hop on the East Coast after West Coast G-Funk dominated the airwaves in the early ‘90s and before the critical and commercial emergence of Nas’ Illmatic and The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die albums the following year.
Enta Da Stage peaked at #33 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with support from the singles “Who Got Da Props?” and “How Many MC’s” while music videos were produced for the non-album remixes for “I Got Cha Opin” and “Buck Em Down.” The Source magazine included Enta Da Stage on their list of The 100 Best Rap Albums of All Time.
In Brian Coleman’s book Check the Technique, Buckshot talked about the creation of the album:
That album was just an example of a vibe, and it turned out like it did because of the love and energy that went into it. It wasn’t planned. We was just one when we did those songs.
