Whitney Houston’s fifth album, Just Whitney, was the follow-up to her 1998 multi-platinum album My Love is Your Love. The album was released on December 10, 2002 after she re-signed with Arista Records on a $100 million contract. The album featured production from Babyface, Missy Elliott, She'kspere, and Bobby Brown among others. Whitney spoke to Billboard about the type of album she wanted to create:
[A] positive, feel-good, very soul-oriented album, something I felt was missing. I hear a lot of things on the radio, but I don’t hear any R&B songs with a bold new flavor … songs you can sing along to and love the melody. That’s what I was looking for.
The album received mixed reviews but still achieved platinum status with support from the singles “Whatchulookinat,” “One of Those Days,” “Try It On My Own,” and “Love That Man.”
