American singer Aretha Franklin released her thirty-fourth studio album, March 1998’s A Rose Is Still A Rose, via Arista Records, helmed by Clive Davis. Franklin’s album is sprinkled with hip-hop influences from producers like Lauryn Hill, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Jermaine Dupri and Daryl Simmons. “A Rose Is Still A Rose” served as a comeback for the Queen of Soul after a long hiatus from her previous album, June 1991’s What You See Is What You Get, with the title track and single, “Here We Go Again” gaining momentum on the Dance and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts attracting a new generation of listeners.
