Rory Ferreira released poplar grove (or how to rap with a hammer) on November 19 2013 under scallops hotel.
The EP’s title references an influential book by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche with the title Twilight of the Idols, or, How to Philosophize with a Hammer (translated from German).
The release was accompanied by the note:
i tried to make something knowing that everything is pointless and nothing is meaningless. this is how you rap with a hammer.

Riley Lake mixed poplar grove and grandfathered my approach to making instrumentals.
Busdriver, Iglooghost, ELOS, Jincallo and Lee Bannon supplemented instrumentals when my own were inadequate.
Dexter Gilbert Bush put together the art for the digital release.
I am indebted.
