The Wood (Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture) accompanied the critically and popularly acclaimed 1999 coming-of-age film of the same name. Directed by Rick Famuyiwa, The Wood soundtrack featured a mix of period (mid-to-late 80s) and then-contemporary songs from such artists as Whodini, UGK, Luther Vandross, and Joe. The soundtrack album peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200, number 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and within six weeks of its release had been certified Gold by the RIAA.
