i am > i was (read as “I am greater than I was”) is 21 Savage’s sophomore studio album. The album arrives almost a year and a half after Issa Album, his debut. The album boasts features from a plethora of artists, including J. Cole, ScHoolboy Q, and Childish Gambino. Savage first teased new music on August 22, 2018, when he tweeted: This tweet alluded to new music coming sometime between October and December. He continued to tease an upcoming release on October 1, 2018, when he tweeted: On Halloween 2018, Savage tweeted “1130,” leading to rumors that something would be released either at 11:30 PM that day or on November 30, 2018. The tweet was later deleted and no music surfaced. On November 5, 2018, he tweeted a new release date for the album. On December 6, 2018, which fans assumed was merely hours before the album’s release, Savage revealed its title and cover art. However, once midnight had passed, the album was nowhere to be found. Savage tweeted about the album’s absence. Later that day, he announced the album’s final release date. Less than two hours after the album’s worldwide release, Savage revealed that a Travis Scott feature would be added “very soon.” Travis’ contributions were later added to “out for the night” on December 24, 2018, labeled “out for the night, pt. 2” and included on the deluxe edition of the album.
