Beast Mode 2 is the sequel to Future’s 2015 collaborative mixtape with producer Zaytoven, one of Future’s “trilogy of album-quality mixtapes.”
The project was originally announced by Zaytoven in 2016, some two years before its eventual release.
In an interview with The Fader, Zaytoven explained the reasons behind why the release was delayed:
we did the song “Used To This” — that was really a Beast Mode song. At the beginning of the song [Future] said “beast mode” and we just took it off. That song started getting big, he went on tour with Drake, and we ended up not putting [the project] out.
He also expanded on his reasons for releasing it in mid 2018:
The songs we recently put out like “Walk On Minks” from the Superfly soundtrack, and especially “Mo Reala” from the Trap Holizay album, have really sparked it. It made [Future] be like, “It’s time for us to drop now ‘cause they want to hear me and you.”
Like the original, Beast Mode 2 spans 9 tracks, and features Future’s frequent collaborator Young Scooter.
