Mirrorland is EARTHGANG’s third studio album and their first under J. Cole’s Dreamville Records.
The album’s title was first revealed in Yoh Phillips’s article about EARTHGANG on August 10, 2017. Three weeks after the article was published, Dreamville officially announced EG’s signing.
From September 2017 to February 2018, the duo released Rags, Robots, and Royalty, a trilogy of EPs that were a part of the “Road to Mirrorland.”
On September 4, 2018, COLORS debuted a video of EG performing “UP.” Two weeks later, on September 21st, 2018, they officially released the album’s lead single, “Stuck.” The album’s second single, “Proud of U,” was released on February 5, 2019. The album’s third single, “Swivel,” was first debuted on July 5, 2019, as the fourth track on Dreamville Records’ Revenge of the Dreamers III. “UP” was finally released as the album’s fourth and final pre-release single on August 29, 2019.
A promotional single, “Ready to Die,” was released on September 2, 2019, along with a music video. At the end of the video, the album’s release date was revealed. Later that day, however, EG confirmed that the track would not appear on the album.
The album’s artwork was unveiled on September 3, 2019. Its tracklist was revealed in increments on September 4, 2019. The images used to unveil the tracklist were later revealed to be a tarot card deck that was released as album merchandise.
Lastly, on September 5, 2019, EARTHGANG released a mobile video game named after the album. The game makes references to Mirrorland, EG affiliates, and their previous musical releases.
