Beware the Book of Eli is the third mixtape by Florida native rapper, Ski Mask the Slump God. The project was leaked by Ski himself on May 1st, 2018, after he grew frustrated with his management and the series of postpones and delays. On the day of its release, Ski Mask posted a picture of the album cover on Instagram saying that if his post got to 40 thousand comments he would release the mixtape. Half-an-hour after the release of the tape on Ski’s SoundCloud page, the whole mixtape was taken down by Ski’s management crew. Ski posted on Instagram saying that he was doing everything he could to get the mixtape up again. The mixtape suffered from many changes across the different dates of its release. First, it was rumoured to be a collaboration mixtape between Ski and his favorite producer, Timbaland. Then, it was also confirmed, not only to be a collab between the two, but to have the participation of artists such as Busta Rhymes, Famous Dex, Lil Yachty, Ronny J and Rich the Kid. Only the last two were actually in the official tracklist of the project and Timbaland only got to produce the songs “Run,” “Worldwide,” and “With Vengeance”, but even those tracks were changed or removed from the project. The title Beware the Book of Eli comes from the 2010 film The Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the protagonist, Eli, heads west with the last remaining Holy Bible, facing dangers and obstacles on his way. Ski Mask’s longtime collaborator and friend, XXXTENTACION, was also rumored to be on the project. On January 13, 2018, X announced that he would be on the tape in a tweet that has since been deleted. XXXTENTACION ended up either being cut off of the project or not being in it at all. We have yet to know what happened.
