The Bar Exam 4 is the fourth installment in the Bar Exam mixtape series and the eleventh overall mixtape by Royce da 5'9", released by Bad Half Entertainment on June 20, 2017 through DatPiff. It was also released a few days later on June 29, on SoundCloud. This mixtape is the first installment released in seven years since the third in 2010. Like the rest of the Bar Exam mixtapes (1, 2 & 3), Royce is seen delivering his lyrics over beats to songs that were popular at that time. While not seen frequently, there are also original beats. Similar to The Bar Exam 2 released in 2008, DJ Green Lantern also delivers in hosting this mixtape and production for some of the songs seen in the tracklist. Among new songs not released before, “I Got The Keys”, “Wait A Minute”, “Beats Keep Callin'”, and “Let’s Take Them To War”—all freestyles—were released prior as singles. Various sites in May of the same year were falsely and unexpectedly reporting that The Bar Exam 4 was going to come the day after Conway’s own mixtape, Reject On Steroids, was planning to be released. This rumor was debunked as the mixtape did not come the day after, although the anticipated release date in the year 2017 was not far off than what people assumed. Notable features on this mixtape include fellow Detroit MC Elzhi and Nick Grant on “Still Waiting”, Conway and Westside Gunn on “Gov Ball”, and Slaughterhouse on “Chopping Block”.
