Gang Signs & Prayer is the debut album from South London UK Grime MC Stormzy and was released on the 24th of February, 2017.
Serving as a narration of his life up until now, the title itself speaks on the duality
The title of the project reflects on the duality of Michael Omari Owuo Jr.’s upbringing as he navigates his adolescence as a drug dealer, gang member and the gritty reality of a black male from the estates of Thornton Heath South London, whilst also highlighting in faith his God, his pride and passion for Christianity, and his Church roots – all of which is done around cementing himself as the top MC.
The 16-track project includes features from fellow artists such as Ghetts, J Hus, Wretch 32, Raleigh Ritchie, Kehlani, Lily Allen & more.
The album had only two singles; “Big for Your Boots” and the smash-hit 2016 freestyle “Shut Up”.
The album also entered the UK Albums Chart at number 1 with sales of 69,000, becoming the first grime album in history to reach number 1.
