As 2 Chainz’s fourth album, this project is considered a follow-up to his collaboration with Lil Wayne, ColleGrove. This project features a wide array of musicians and icons with the likings of Drake, Quavo, Pharrell Williams, and Jhené Aiko. It was released under Def Jam Records and was preceded by two singles, “Good Drank” and “It’s a Vibe.”
On January 2, 2017, 2 Chainz previewed this album during an Atlanta Hawks press conference. Additionally, he was questioned on May of that year in an interview with The View about this project. He stated:
You can expect growth and maturation. It’s still edgy content, but trap music is kinda defined as low socioeconomic background music where you have to hustle to get out. And it’s a situation where a lot of good girls used to like the bad guys, and that’s what this album is about.
Pretty Girls Like Trap Music debuted in the number two spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 with 106,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week. On Sept. 12, 2017, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA.
