....The End of the Beginning - Murs
....The End of the Beginning

….The End Of the Beginning is the fourth solo studio album from Los Angeles rapper Murs, released on February 25th 2003, by Definitive Jux Records. It is his first album to be released with that label. The album’s title was inspired by Murs' feelings that he was coming out of the “beginning” of his career, where he was completely unsigned and having to do everything by himself, and moving onto a new portion where he was signed, and people knew him, hence it being the “end” of the beginning. This is explained better on the opening track, “You & I”. The 18 track album featured production from previous Murs collaborator Mum’s the Word, as well as Def Jux producers El-P, Blockhead and RJD2, and we also had beats from Ant of Atmosphere and Oh No. Features on the album included Def Jux affiliates El-P and Aesop Rock, Murs' group 3 Melancholy Gypsys, and legendary rapper Shock G, who bought along his alter ego Humpty Hump. The album was preceded by singles “God’s Work” (b-side “Def Cover”) and “Risky Business” (b-side “Brotherly Love”), and is widely regarded as one of Murs' best albums to date. Murs went on to record one more album with Def Jux, titled Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition, before moving on to Record Collection, and then major label Warner Bros.. In 2022, he released a single titled “The Beginning Of the End” signalling that the period in which he entered with this album was finally at a close. That single also had a very similar cover art to this album.
