In 2011, Maroon 5 re-released their third album, Hands All Over. As a part of the re-release, they added four new singles onto the album, with the final one being “Moves Like Jagger”, a collaboration with Christina Aguilera that demonstrated an ambitious move towards pop music. The track shot to the top of the Billboard Top 100, and with this newfound success, the band decided to use “Moves Like Jagger” as the basis for their fourth studio album, Overexposed.
The album produced two smash hit singles, “One More Night” and “Payphone”, which buoyed the 2012 album to the top of the charts. Overexposed also marked a clear shift in the band’s mentality. In their previous three albums, Maroon 5 rarely reached outside of their own people for help making songs, but on this album, they recruited numerous collaborators, such as Benny Blanco and Ryan Tedder, to write and produce on a few songs, and enlisted pop titan Max Martin to executive produce the entire album.
