Tech N9ne’s seventh studio album, The Storm, was the most ambitious of Tech’s albums up to the point of its release.
The album title plays directly off the name of his debut studio album, The Calm Before The Storm, which was released in November of 1999. Tech brings all of his career’s defining points and embodies them across the track-list.
The album’s 17 tracks (20 on the deluxe) are categorized into three areas. “Kingdom” brings out Tech’s royal side, showing off his braggadocios and narcissistic side. “Clown Town” is a result of the decrepit and dilapidated state of Tech N9ne’s darkest memories. “G. Zone” is a throwback to the days of lore, where Tech brings his standard real music over more street-sounding beats.
The project holds features galore, from Marsha Ambrosius to Gary Clark Jr., from Boyz II Men to Problem, from The Popper to Jonathan Davis from the band Korn, as well as Tech’s usual Strange Music roster, including Stevie Stone, JL, Darrein Safron, Big Scoob, and Krizz Kaliko. Across tracks like “Godspeed” and “The Needle”, it is obvious that Tech N9ne – and his Strange crew – have come a “Long Way” indeed.
