Fourth studio album by american rapper 50 cent released on November 9th 2009. After his album Curtis which received mixed reviews by general public and lost to Kanye West’s Graduation album at sales battle in America,50 cent decided to make this album as more of aggresive and darker than his previous one.
Initially, Before I Self Destruct was supposed to be released in 2007 instead of Curtis but he decided to release it in 2008 which was one of album release dates that were later delayed further.
In contrast to Curtis, 50 said that fans
should not expect to see guest appearances like you saw on Curtis.
The first promotional single for the album was Get Up released on October 13th 2008 which features production from record producer Scott Storch and second single was I Get It In which features production from Dr. Dre. However, both songs weren’t featured on the album since it was delayed multiple times.
First three official singles for the album were
-Ok, You’re Right
-Baby By Me ft. Ne-Yo
-Do You Think About Me
Baby By Me turned out to be an international hit debuting on #31 on Billboard Hot 100.
The album sold 160,000 copies in it’s first week, debuting at number 4 on the Billboard 200,taking into case the full album leaked four weeks earlier making Interscope request Billboard and Nielson Soundscan delay charting the album for a week,so the first week digital sales were added to the total amount of albums sold between November 16 and 22.
By January 2015, the album sold 1,359,340 copies in the United States receiving platinum certification.
Before I Self Destruct received generally positive reviews from music critics praising the album’s energy, production and 50’s hunger for a good record.
