Aquemini - OutKast
Aquemini

Aquemini is the third studio album by OutKast, released on September 29, 1998 through LaFace/Arista Records. The album title is a combination of the Zodiac signs Aquarius and Gemini, representing Big Boi and André 3000 respectively. While their sophomore album ATLiens was a complete departure from their Southernplaylistic debut album, Aquemini took their new sound to another level. After Organized Noize produced their entire debut album, OutKast began producing some tracks on their sophomore album, ATLiens, and take on more production for this album, creating more spaced out and soulful soundscapes with live instruments. The group tackles a number of topics on the album as they were given more creative control of the project thanks to the success of their previous album. The singles released from the album were the funky hoedown on the lead single “Rosa Parks,” the Raekwon-assisted “Skew It on the Bar-B,” and the remixed version of “Da Art of Storyellin' (Part 1)” featuring Slick Rick. The album was critically acclaimed by multiple publications, being named as one of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time as well as receiving a perfect 5 Mic rating in The Source magazine, a high honor in hip-hop at the time. The album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and went on to achieve multi-platinum status.
