My Krazy Life

My Krazy Life marks Compton rapper, YG’s debut studio album, which released on March 18th, 2014. The album features guest appearances from big named artists, such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and many more. It also features production from frequent collaborator, DJ Mustard, who is one of the Executive Producer of the album, Metro Boomin, Terrance Martin, as well as production from Ty Dolla $ign, who also appears on the album as a featured artist. In 2009, after serving six months in jail for residential burglary charges, YG had signed a deal with Def Jam Records. While he was released, YG had started going into meetings from Atlantic Records to Def Jam, where they chose him to sign with the latter due to brand recognition. YG would later on reveal that he would be naming the album, I’m From Bompton. He later went on to explain why he named the album. I changed the C to a B because it’s where I’m from and it’s also bringing something new. It’s drawing more attention, you feel me? And it’s, like, I’m not doing it to draw attention. I’m doing it to because that’s really what I say and that’s really where I’m from. I’m from Bompton…You gonna feel like you’re from Bompton too when you’re done listening to the album. In January of 2012, YG would later change the album title to Freshman on Campus, however that name would not last that long, as he later on changed it back to what it was. On January 21st, 2013, YG released his fourth mixtape, Just Re’d Up 2. Before it’s release, YG had decided that it would be his final mixtape release before the debut album. On September 4th, 2013, YG would later reveal the final name to the album, changing it to My Krazy Life and explained why he changed it to what it is now. If my album was called I’m From Bompton it means like, I’m gangbanging, so certain people might feel some type of way. They won’t purchase my album because I’m gangbanging. The rapper also revealed that the album’s title would summarize the day in the life of YG. The album had suffered through many delays, since it’s announcement. In March of 2013, YG announced that the album was set to be released in August of 2013, however on September 4th, YG and Jeezy both appeared on MTV’s RapFix and announced that the album was expected to be released on November 19th, 2013, however that date was shortly pushed back. On December 11th, 2013, YG announced that the album would be finally released on March 18th, 2014. He had chosen this date, because it had marked the fifth year anniversary of YG going to prison. It was also done to represent his journey and growth as an artist since then. On February 18th, 2014, YG had released the official cover art of the album. Two days later, YG later revealed the tracklist of the album. Years after the album’s release, the track, “Meet the Flockers” with TeeCee4800, caused controversy with it’s lyrics, mainly the neighborhood lyric. Find a Chinese neighborhood ‘Cause they don’t believe in bank accounts This resulted in the album getting taken down for a short amount of time, on April 6th, 2021, only to be re-released on the same day, with an additional edit to the track, removing the controversial line. Four singles were released prior to the album’s official release. On September 4h, 2013, YG had dropped the first single to the album, “My Nigga” featuring Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan, with it later being released on streaming platforms on September 17th. An official remix with Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, and Nicki Minaj was released on January 22nd, 2014, which also ended up being on the album. On November 28th, 2013, YG released the second single to the album, “Left Right” via Jeezy’s #ItsThaWorld2 mixtape. It features production and vocals from DJ Mustard.
