4:21... The Day After - Method Man
4:21... The Day After

4:21… The Day After, Method Man’s fourth solo album, follows 2004’s Tical 0: The Prequel, which received some criticism for sounding more commercial than his previous efforts—something Meth agreed with. Leading up to the release of 4:21…, Meth experienced personal and professional issues, and decided to address some of these topics on the album. Meth revealed the meaning of the title: Four-twenty [April 20] is the national weed-smoking day, according to those who chief. I basically said ‘4:21’ because I’m the day-after dude. Plus, four [and] two [and] zero only adds up to six. ‘4:21’ gives you that perfect seven. So this is sort of the day after, a moment of clarity, so to speak. When you’re waking up from that night of partying and shit like that, what goes down. Led by the Lauryn Hill-assisted single “Say,” the album peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200 and #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Executive produced by Meth, RZA, and Erick Sermon, the album features guest appearances from Redman, Raekwon, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Fat Joe, Styles P, and Ginuwine among others. Outside of Erick Sermon and RZA, the albums producers include Havoc, Scott Storch, Kwame, and Mr. Porter.
