Head Above Water - Avril Lavigne
Head Above Water

Head Above Water is the sixth studio album by Canadian popstar Avril Lavigne. It precedes her 5 year hiatus that followed her self-titled fifth album (2013). It was released on Feburary 15, 2019. During the (unofficial) hiatus, Lavigne was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, from which it took years to recover from. In 2015 she momentarily came back to the spotlight to release the single “Fly” for the special Olympics, and reveal on Good Morning America that she was still recovering. Leading up to September 2018, Avril announced her comeback in an emotional letter to her fans. The title track and lead single, “Head Above Water” was released on September 19, 2018 and peaked at #64 on the Billboard Hot 100. The pop-rock power ballad see’s Lavigne’s connection with God growing stronger as she fights her own death and mortality. A few months later in December, the R&B-soul ballad (a wild change in style for the singer) “Tell Me It’s Over” was announced and released. The song discusses a toxic relationship and has Lavigne putting on her best Billie Holiday impression.
