Trauma - DJ Quik
Trauma

DJ Quik released his Trauma album on September 13, 2005. Prior to this, he released the Trauma Mixtape, a mixture of his hits and new songs, prior to releasing the album to feed the fans as his album was delayed while he was moving from Warner Bros. to Fontana Distribution. The album sold over 100,000 copies through his own independent label Mad Science Records and it debuted at number 43 on the Billboard 200, while peaking at number one on the Independent Albums chart. An instrumental version of the album was also released. The album was supported by the singles “Black Mercedes” with Nate Dogg, “Fandango” with B-Real, “Ladies & Thugs” with Wyclef, and “Get Down” with Chingy. Ludacris, T.I., The Game, AMG, and a reunited Jodeci also make guest appearances. Quik said the following to Vibe about the album’s creation: On Trauma I started aligning myself with the Southern artists like T.I. and Ludacris. The South was running the business. It was all about them. So to stay alive and be relevant you had to align yourself with the power players. We did those songs off of respect. Trauma was an independent album. I thought that I vented nicely on the intro, and those records still stand up for me. The production, however, wasn’t really musical. I was going for more barebones, more drum oriented songs.
