Church Clothes - Lecrae
Church Clothes

In 2012 Rapper Lecrae, released his first mixtape titled Church Clothes. Many consider Church Clothes to be Lecrae’s mainstream breakthrough, because it was downloaded over 100,000 times in less than 48 hours and it debuted at number 10 on The Billboard Charts under Christian Albums and Gospel Albums. While the EP version of Church Clothes peaked at number 5 on iTunes’s Rap/Hip-Hop Chart, the album was also rated Platinum on the free mixtape website, Datpiff, because in less than one month Church Clothes was downloaded over 250,000 times. The song “Church Clothes” was only included on the mixtape. After releasing his first mixtape, Lecrae received a lot of backlash from The Christian Church, because in the song “Church Clothes” he discusses the hypocrisy that goes on in some Churches.
