One Hand On the Future - Zak Abel
One Hand On the Future

We’ve focused on artists varying their style and sonic focus countless times, and though only a few manage to emanate in a successful way with what actions they put forth, some almost make it seem effortless, as Zak Abel is doing on latest EP One Hand On The Future. We’ve followed the many teasers up to the release of the body of work, and what we particularly gathered from them is the singer’s tendency to break through genre confinements, and branch out and inject his vocal presence into contrasting sonic terrains. The seven-track project that features the most-recent “Running From Myself” sees several notable producers handling the sonic fronts, and Karma Kid, the producer responsible for that particular track, gives more signature funk on “Bring It Home”, another standout we’re deciding to share. Apart from that, we see Joker instilling his one-of-a-kind, soul-infused electronic on other picks, and, of course, the Kaytranada-assisted, already-featured “Say Sumthin‘” is a piece that’s certainly worth revisiting again. The EP as a whole is a fairly fearless statement from Zak, and he’s certainly executed his sonic aims on all fronts here. HillyDilly.com
