Hallucinogen - Kelela
Hallucinogen

Hallucinogen is Kelela’s follow-up EP to her 2013 debut mixtape, Cut 4 Me. The project marries the sensuality of r&b employed by the likes of Aaliyah and Janet Jackson (who are frequently cited influences) and the numbing club-production of the Fade To Mind edm camp. In a piece with Interview Magazine, Kelela revealed that Hallucinogen as a project came to be, incidentally, as a consequence of the music industry treating her as a commodity—that was otherwise dispensable: I made the EP because I was told that I needed to release music or I’d be forgotten forever. Hallucinogen was pulled from Take Me Apart album tracks. For people who don’t actually generate the commodity itself, the art, it’s difficult for them to feel abundant and easy for them to make suggestions that will distract from your abundance.
